Welcome!
Welcome to ninth grade. You are now a freshman in high school. Ninth grade is a lot more difficult than 7-8th grade. You are now in high school and more will be expected of you. In order to have a successful ninth grade year, it is important that you do homework, study for tests and pay attention in class.
Now that you are in high school, you will have the opportunity to participate in high school sports and activities. Please try to get involved in your school. Sports and activities are a good way for you to meet new people and participate in your school. Activities always look good on a resume or job application. Those of you who are looking for some type of schooling after high school, schools will look at what activities you participated in high school. Schools want to see students who were involved in activities during their high school years. Various sports include cross country, soccer, football, golf, basketball, baseball, softball and track. There are many organizations to join such as SADD, Teens Against Tobacco, Chemistry Club, German Club, Spanish Club, Classics Club etc. You can get involved in the school musical by performing or helping out with the Tech crew building scenery for the play.
There are lots of opportunities for community service. Remember that you will need twenty hours of community service in order to graduate. Start now. Don't wait until the last minute. You can complete all your community service your freshman year if you work hard.

Grading Policy
Ninth grade has a different grading policy that 7/8th did. In 7/8th grade all four quarters were averaged together and divided by 4. If you had a 60% or above you received one full credit for that class.
Ninth grade is divided into semesters. Quarter 1 and 2 are averaged together and divided by 2, if you receive a 60% or higher you would receive 1/2 credit. Quarters 3 and 4 are also added together and if you receive a 60% or better you will receive another 1/2 credit.
For Example:
English
7th/8th grade
Quarter 1 Quarter 2 Semester Quarter 3 Quarter 4 Semester Final
58% 59% 59% 66% 68% 67% 63% 1 full credit
9th grade
58% 59% 59% (no credit) 66% 68% 67% - 1/2 credit
Even though you received the same grades, with the new grading system for ninth grade, you would lose 1/2 credit because you didn't receive a 60% for the first semester. In order to pass ninth grade you will need six out of seven credits. If you fail more than two (1/2) classes you will not pass ninth grade.
The school has an MMS system that allows students and parents to check grades daily. If you have trouble accessing the MMS system please call the Guidance Office for information. Please check grades on a regular basis to make sure that you are not in danger of losing a credit.

Special Education Services
For a student to receive special education services they must receive an evaluation performed by our school psychologist. A student can qualify for services if they have the following disabilities:-Specific Learning Disability-Mental Retardation-Emotional Disturbance-Other Health Impaired- Speech and Language Impaired.
Once a child is identified as having a disability, he will receive an Individualized Education Plan. An IEP Meeting. will then be scheduled to discuss what supports the student needs to be successful. An IEP will be held once a year to discuss any progress or changes that have occurred. A Re-evaluation Report will also be done every two-three years to check that the student is in the proper placement.
If you have any questions, you can contact the Special Education Supervisor, Mrs. Mary Ann Wynosky.
